[Press] Clinical Efficacy of Tablet-Based Cognitive Training Published in SCI Journal ‘BMC Pediatrics’

A clinical study led by Jee-hyun Suh, MD, and her research team at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Medical Center, investigating the effects of a tablet-based cognitive training program on visual-motor integration in children with developmental delays, has been published in the SCI-indexed journal BMC Pediatrics.

Limitations of Traditional Interventions

Children with developmental delays often experience reduced visual-motor integration (VMI), which affects essential school and daily activities such as copying text, catching a ball, or typing.

Conventional interventions to improve these skills typically require in-person sessions at hospitals or specialized centers. This traditional approach involves spatial and temporal constraints, along with ongoing financial burdens for families.

12-Week Clinical Trial Outcomes

To address these accessibility issues, the research team conducted a 12-week clinical trial involving children aged 4 to 18 diagnosed with developmental delays, utilizing a tablet-based cognitive training program.

The clinical results indicated that the participants demonstrated statistically significant improvements in visual-motor integration, fine motor skills, and overall performance in daily living activities compared to their baseline assessments.

Evaluation of Media Dependency

The study also evaluated the potential risk of smartphone addiction associated with tablet use. Throughout the intervention period, no exacerbation of smartphone dependency indicators was observed. This suggests that structured tablet-based cognitive training can facilitate visual-motor development without increasing the risk of media addiction.

Jee-hyun Suh, MD, the lead researcher, stated, “If this therapeutic method enables children with developmental delays to effectively develop visual-motor skills at home, it could significantly assist their adaptation to kindergarten and school environments.”

The publication in BMC Pediatrics provides objective clinical evidence supporting the efficacy of the cognitive training algorithm utilized in tallerRx.
